Spectulating rooks
In the not so early morning light of the shortest day the rooks noisily stirring about their nests reminded me of the 'speculating rooks' in the Edward Thomas poem 'Thaw' who saw from their nests 'what we could not see - winter pass' . Perhaps a premature thought but on the shortest day there is room for a glimmer of optimism- at least the light will improve.
