Shower Room Conversion - Complete (Almost)

Firstly, thanks to everyone for your lovely comments & stars/heart for my blip yesterday describing the funeral we attended. Much appreciated. It seems that the Desiderata is popular amongst blippers!

Today's blip (it had to be a distorting fisheye image to fit enough in) shows our new shower room, converted from a box room in the attic. Phase 1 was shown on 20th July...the difference is quite striking! The lads who did the work were lovely and very careful and we're very pleased. There were a few technical problems to deal with, not the least being the fact that the header tank for our gravity-fed hot water system is on the floor below so a pump was necessary - and a longish pipe run. However as over the years I've had floorboards up in every room in the house, and added quite a few pipes myself too, I was able to show them the best route for the new pipework with the minimum amount of disruption.

Why did I say "almost finished"? Well we had to get building control approval for the work (for a rather ridiculously large fee!) and they've insisted on an extractor fan being fitted ("because that's what the regulations say"). The fact that opening the roof window for 3-4 minutes after a shower clears the steam much quicker than a fan would doesn't seem to be a factor which the regulations accept. Ridiculous, eh? (The roofer who works with the firm doing the job has been ill with a nasty bug, so the fan will have to wait until the new year now.) Oh, and we asked them to leave it to us to repaint the architrave and the door - the doorway had to be moved about 30cm to the right to allow the shower tray to fit, fortunately it's just a lath-and-plaster partition wall.

The frame you can see on the worktop is an early Christmas present from one of my brothers. They thought that our new toilet should be twinned with one in Nepal - a lovely idea - and this is the proof!
