Merry Solstice. Yuletide blessings and celebrations of the Reborn Sun. /|\
No, I didn't join those hardy folk at Stonehenge. It is interesting to note that the BBC has finally taken up the truth, that the Winter Solstice is more important on every level than the Summer. That has of course made the Winter Solstice almost as "popular", and the stones were awash with people this morning, as witnessed by the amount of social media posting.
I wonder if you can truly experience a sunrise, anywhere, ever, whilst holding a mobile phone... but as ever, Salisbury Plain was cloudy and the sunrise mostly featureless. Here at home the rain blattered at the windows and I didn't even try to see the event. The Sun set likewise hidden and unobserved. But welcomed.
It's a curious few days... short and mostly dark, cold and mostly wet... but from here on in the daylight slowly begins to increase. The long shadows shorten, and the unconquered Sun begins to strengthen. At least, up here it does... in the southern hemisphere you've peaked, guys. Hope it was fab.
The image is fun, isn't it. Worth a look. We took the kids to the ice skating rink, and I shot this with AvgCamPro. Someone stood still for a time, a person-stice! while around them skaters rushed, slid and tumbled. Then I did some fartnarkling.
