Mistletoe
There was a big wedding at our church today, for the granddaughter of some very good friends of ours. It was the most joyful, faith-filled service and I was so glad I was able to slip in and sit at the back with some other friends to join in the service and witness the couple make their vows.
It did make me feel old, though, because I can remember clearly the bride’s father when he was a small boy, sitting in the pews (which we had in those days, rather than chairs) with his sister during the morning family service and seeing them both having a ball making funny faces at a very young Traveller of about nine months old, who was sitting on my lap. And all of a sudden that mischievous little boy has morphed into the father of the bride. My goodness, don’t the years fly.
It was a memorable wedding for more than one reason. Given that it was taking place four days before Christmas, it had been made clear to the bride when she booked the date that the church would be all set up for the Christmas productions, which start on Monday. She was more than happy about that, she didn’t want to wait any longer than she had to, and didn’t mind if the church looked a bit different.
However, our team had done a fantastic job of disguising the stage set by using navy backdrops to cover most of the scenery, leaving just two ‘stone’ pillars visible, belonging to the inn. The church was full of flowers and Christmas lights and the atmosphere was fantastic. I thought the use of mistletoe in the wedding logo was a nice touch.
