The postman always rings twice

Up early, despite my lurgy taking a significant turn for the worse, and the three of us went in for Ottawacker Jr.’s 10am U13 game against Ottawa TFC Red. Having acquitted himself well yesterday against OSU, I was interested to see if his confidence would be high dropping down a level – and it was. He is still playing up an age group, but you wouldn’t know it. His team won 6-3 in rather an ill-tempered match, with Ottawacker Jr. making one very good save. Couldn’t say any of the goals were his fault either, so a good day all round.

Pretty long chat with my aunt Brenda out in BC, who has just had a hip replacement and is already doing more stretches and walks than I do. She’s only 81, mind. Got the blow-by-blow account of the physio, which is apparently all covered by Coastal Health. Was looking to talk to my uncle too – as it has been a while – but he was either up a tree or trying to dissuade raccoons from digging up his lawn. Or maybe it was blackbirds. The stories all got intertwined for a while, so it might have been the raccoon that had the hip replacement and Brenda was digging up the lawn.

Did some laundry and catching up on the Portugal blips – only a week left now – and then Mrs. Ottawacker surprised me by saying she was going to make dinner. She did a coq au vin blanc, which was excellent. Then at 7, I went out for a couple of drinks to O’Brien’s with Ian Lawrence, an old soccer friend of mine that I haven’t seen in six years. Time flies. We had a good catch up and managed to make it feel like it had only been a couple of weeks. Always nice when that happens. Of course, this being Ottawa, the city that life forgot, we were literally the only two customers in the pub. This, 10 days before Christmas.
