Christmas crochet...
Up early and off to Ikea in Glasgow to buy all the necessary accoutrements for the Team's new kitchen. Weather was a it wild but the rain stopped long enough to let us get from the car to Ikea without getting soaked.
It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, but then again, who buys Christmas gifts in Ikea? That said, I did buy some chocolate covered toffees for John.
We, I say we, I expect I mean I, had great fun going round choosing all the bits and bobs. D did rein me in a couple of times by reminding me the team would not be holding dinner parties so the large serving dishes really weren't necessary, and neither was the wine bottle opener. Old habits die hard! :D
Of course we looked at the food section and couldn't resist a tin of ginger thins. I'm planning to make gingerbread fudge and they will decorate that beautifully. Also bought little almond cookies and mini cinnamon buns.
Once finished in Ikea we headed over to Braehead shopping mall to pick up a jacket we'd seen online in Next as part of Kenny's Christmas gift. I opted to stay in the car and D says I made the right decision as the place was mobbed. I would have been very grumpy if I'd gone in.
Home for a late lunch of chicken and vegetable soup with lovely soda bread from M&S. Also picked up some of their madeira cake as I am thinking about making a trifle on New Year's Day and the urge to make my own madeira cake has vanished.
Nick got loads done in the carer's kitchen today but it will be Monday before he's finished. There was a set back today as despite discussing with the designer, confirming and paying for under cupboard lighting, Howden's haven't included it in the design, so Nick hasn't done the electrics for it. He only found out when D took him a cup of coffee and mentioned that he was glad we'd included under cupboard lighting as the worktop and splash back is quite dark. Luckily the splash back hasn't been fitted yet, or there would have been a big problem! And the worktop is so hard, it completely destroyed his cutting blade so he'll need to get a replacement for that tomorrow. It's looking great though. Like a kitchen :-) Really struggling to decide on the colour for the walls though.
D took Lola for a walk around the block and I quickly wrapped his last pressie, and Kenny's jacket. And I've completed my Tesco order that's coming on Monday morning. Just need to remember to pick up the rack of lamb and some other bits and bobs from the butcher on Monday, but other than that I think that is me done! Phew! I will be able to relax and enjoy our niece Jen's 30th birthday lunch tomorrow afternoon.
Oh and today's blip is the crochet gonks I've been making over the last few weeks in my crochet sweat shop! I made a load of green ones too but I seem to have forgotten to photograph them. I still have loads to finish, the hats are done but I need to add the button, pom pom, bell and beard, but I have until 28th to do that so not panicking :)
And in other news, it was 41 years ago this evening that D asked me out for the first time at our 6th year High School Dance. If he knew then what he knows now......... hahahahahahahahaha!
And in other, even more exciting news, it's the shortest day! (Well in the Northern Hemisphere :-) From tomorrow we will gradually start getting som light back! Woo hoo! It will be spring in no time! :D
