Exuviate

I hunted all weekend for a glimpse of one the giant dragonflies "hatching" and finally was rewarded. It is such an interesting process to watch them slowly shed their exuviae and then seem to squeeze out the excess water. The wings are then dried, unfolded, and hardened before they can fly. It seems to take awhile before their full color is revealed. The markings are visible but not the colors yet.
