Female Great Spotted Woodpecker -Dendrocopus major

I have seen Great Spotted Woodpeckers at bird feeders many times but this is only the second time I have seen them 'in the wild'.

Two of them, a juvenile and an adult, landed in a tree near me. Both my attempts at the juvenile ended up with images of a bare branch. Fortunately, mother was a little slower off the mark and I managed just this single shot before she too moved on.
