2024 Friday — Dinner with Friends
Creating space for people to be with each other is often accomplished by those whose gift is hospitality. This evening Mr. Fun & I were recipients of that gift.
I love circles; people sitting in circles; a table with people seated around it, delicious food being passed — tri tip roast cooked to perfection, broccoli just tender, but nowhere near mushy, squash that melts in your mouth, cornbread so flavorful you want seconds and thirds, berry pie with buttery crust — appetites being satisfied, beverages being sipped, and then a moment when no one is speaking because everyone is savoring a bite of food they never want to forget.
Then minutes of discovery around the table as new friends tell their own story. Because none of us at the table are young in years, the stories contain much history. Because everyone at the table is a Christ-follower, God moments are woven through the evening's conversation. The gathering isn't really about food, no. It is fellowship and the nourishment of our souls that becomes the centerpiece of this gathering. The only calories that were counted were the ones that fattened our souls.
The photographer within me was very shy this evening; so the photos are few and possibly that is because capturing the moment -- the warmth of people becoming friends -- was an impossible task for my camera.
What I do know is that when I asked God some time ago if I'd ever have friends on the Central Coast, His answer to me was a gentle "wait and see." The "wait" vanished almost immediately and the "see" was so unexpected and rich. I think God was waiting for me to ask.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
