La Patrona
Every year the Pollencians re-enact the legendary battle where their ancestors fought off thousands of sword-wielding moors with just wooden sticks and their belief in God.
It's a major highlight of the town calendar, and is at the centre of an art, music and religious festival that sees the town draped in white streamers and Pollenca and Mallorca flags, and where everyone pours into the streets every night for music and dancing and general celebration.
The actual re-enactment itself is said to be off limits for holiday makers and an absolute no-go for anyone under about 15, so we have never seen that part, though we have often enjoyed the build- up and the aftermath (bottle-strewn streets, cars abandoned in fields, and a general air if debauchery as well as the more official exhibition of photographs the next day).
This toy shop paid its own tribute to the battle, in papier-mâché puppets and bunny rabbits. The 'battle' takes place on Friday.
