A Not So Merry Meerkat
After yesterday's glorious winter sunshine it was back to being dank with rather dispiritingly grey and featureless skies and my mood wasn't particularly helped by still not being able to go for a run.
Later in the morning we had to head out for some food shopping and to get the Saturday papers and on the way we decided to swing past our village's Christmas Market. By the time we arrived the nearby roads were already lined with cars and the nearest car parks were jam packed so we had to park half a mile away - not ideal for my recalcitrant ankle.
Unfortunately, once we'd made a donation charity on the way in, what we were greeted with was a tad underwhelming. There were plenty of food and drink stalls housed in some glorified garden sheds especially erected for the occasion but there was very little in the way of any festive decoration - just a couple of strings of lights and one large inflatable Santa - so I thought the stallholders who'd put in a lot of effort had been let down a little by the organisers. We did though have a lovely coffee from one of the outlets run by two very cheery ladies so not all was lost.
We took another quick stroll around the market whilst we finished our coffees but sadly no photo opportunities presented themselves so we cut our losses and went and did our food shop (although we did still manage to forget a vital ingredient for tonight's dinner) and 'consoled' ourselves with a pint on the way home.
When we got in we had a large glass of wine watching one of our favourite programmes, Inside The Tower of London on Channel 5, which helped to restore our spirits.
I was just about to go to bed when I suddenly realised that I'd completely forgotten to get an image until our upstairs landing light caught the outline of this dressing gown wearing meerkat in our spare bedroom. So I just propped the little fella up at the top of the stairs overlooking our hallway and snapped this head and shoulders portrait. So not the merry festive image I had intended to capture but it might come in handy if he needs a publicity shot for his agent! :-)
