Mistake
I went along to the Abbey Theatre in Dublin to see a friend of mine performing on stage. Colm had won a section of the story telling competition in Tallaght. Winners got the chance to appear onstage in the Abbey Theatre to tell a story. The theme they were given was about a mistake that they had made in their life. You got seven minutes to relate it to the audience. There were eight story tellers chosen in all. Naturally being biased I though Colm was the best. Unfortunatly he did not win here on the night. The other storytellers seemed to be very well polished with their performances, I would image that they have done it numerous times before. One of them whom I spoke to later said that she had been doing it for ten years. Colm only did it once before in Tallaght and he only jumped into that because it seemed a good idea at the time. He didn't do it to win but win he did in Tallaght and it got him here. I was talking to his sister later and she said that the story he brought to the stage in The Abbey was what happened in real life. I think some of the other storytellers might have embellished their stories a bit.
The theme mistake was a very good one because it gets you thinking of maybe one or two you might have made in your own life.
It was presented by Sharon Mannion and she was excellent.
