Wet, wet, wet, but still brilliant
Yet again, the weather forecast was grim. It was hardly proper daylight when we set off after 9.00 am on the motorway towards Bayonne.
After two fascinating days in the Spanish part of the Basque Country, we crossed the border into France, and started with Bayonne.
It’s a beautiful city, with such a lovely cathedral with cloisters, amazing buildings, a picturesque river…….and the most wonderful market. My blip today is just one of the photos I took of the mouthwatering seafood. O.k. It’s Christmas Eve, but I got the distinct impression that this market is spectacular at any time.
It was raining, yes, but at that stage, we weren’t soaked.
On to Biarritz. Dense rainy mist, strong winds and waves, but still a most impressive and elegant city resort. We stopped there and enjoyed a light lunch (as we’re having our evening meal in the hotel together this evening.)
The rain was heavy and unrelenting when we got to Saint Jean de Luz. It’s still fabulous and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world, but it was seriously hard going.
We were delayed (getting drenched) as we waited for a funeral to finish in the unusual church (extras).
There was nowhere to hide or shelter and everything was soaked completely by the time our coach driver arrived to take us back to San Sebastián.
Another wonderful experience….and they are threatening dry weather tomorrow but I daren’t believe them.
