Chill.
I didn't want to go for a walk in this cold, windy weather, but we did.
The port was bleak, the restaurants were all empty and very few people were about.
When we reached the square, in front of the church, we noticed a large number of people standing around, apparently waiting for something to happen.
When the penny finally dropped, I realized that a funeral was taking place in the spacious church which was evidently packed tight.
Then the second penny dropped. I knew whose funeral it was and we joined the sadness of all the people present.
Two kids lost their dad. He was the same age as my older son.
His death was untimely but what distinguished him from the rest of us was he was simply a nice guy.
As far as I know he was not exceptional but all the locals visited his shop from time to time to buy something and have a chat. Always quietly friendly and never a moan, just like he father before him.
Very sad and food for thought.
