“The 12 days of Christmas”  illustrations are on a gift of a tin of fudge. The 12 days are the period between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi at Epiphany on January 6 so it’s no wonder that by day 6 the recipient was getting very annoyed by the mess and noise of the cumulative gifts from her “true love” and thought they were nuisance and a waste of money.
The cost of the 12 gifts on the twelfth day would be $49,263 and for all the 364 cumulative gifts for the period the total cost would be $209,272 or £38,617.42 at prices today.  Either her true love was extremely rich or completely unrealistic about the value of things.
