Best Pals…
Well it’s been quite a day!
On Christmas Eve Lola stole a bag of Walkers crisps from Alan’s support worker Penny’s bag. Thankfully she brought them to eat them in front of us (we tried very hard to get her to give them up but no treats would temp her to drop them!) so as she wolfed them and the packet, we were at least alerted that she’d done it.
We’ve kept an eye on her since. All normal but no sign of the crisp packet. Phoned the emergency vet yesterday and they said just to continue keeping an eye on her and any sign of pain, being sick or straining to poo get back in touch.
She was fine till this morning when she started trying to be sick just after 7am. Vet didn’t open till 8.00am but they’re an hour away so D just got dressed and got her in the car and headed off (she was fine again)
He phoned from the Vet to say they had admitted her and would x-yay her. If the crisp bag was still in her stomach they’d either make her sick or remove it via endoscopy. If in her intestines they might have to operate. As you can imagine, I was beside myself.
D headed home as they said it would be after lunch before they would know.
Meanwhile I got organised for John and Norma coming for lunch and dinner and a sleep over. Alan was very excited at seeing them.
They arrived just before D got back. We were just finishing lunch when the Vet phoned to say they had x-rayed Lola and there was no sign of the crisp bag. £500 for the x-ray.
David went to collect her and by then she’d had a poo and you’ve guessed it…pooed out the crisp bag! That was an expensive poo! But very relieved it’s out!
D returned with her and she was a bit dazed and confused. Very quiet. Vet said bland food for 24 hours so poached some chicken breasts and gave her the chicken water and one of the chicken breasts. She’s gotten brighter as the evening has gone on but still very quiet. Will let her sleep in our bedroom again tonight but back to normal tomorrow night.
So it’s been a quiet evening with John and Norma watching old quiz shows on tv - Bob Monkhouse Full House and The Generation Game. Hilarious:-)
They say bad things happen in threes so as well as Lola’s drama, Nick the kitchen fitter is ill with the flu and not been able to come out and finish the Carer’s kitchen and my fan oven has developed a fault.
But Alan’s had a great day with Grandpa and Norma and a fab time in the pool, and it could have been a lot worse for Lola, so every cloud :-))
