Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

Today I had a ride, with a couple of friends in the RBL Riders Branch. We met at a layby on the A40 Golden Valley bypass between Gloucester and Cheltenham, just before Junction 11 of the M5 Motorway.
We set off at 0845 and got to the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA), Alrewas (near Lichfield and Tamworth) at just before 1100, quite a ride in heavy mist and 5 degrees C (41f).
Worst thing was having to use a gloved finger, of the left hand, to wipe the gathering water, from the mist, from the visor every 30 seconds or so.
We met up with around 20 others at the NMA all from the West Midlands region, which covers Staffordshire, Shropshire, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. One of the largest regions in the Riders Branch, shame only about 20 could make it. Many, living closer to the NMA, drove so there was only 5 bikes!
One of our team, from Chipping Campden, made it on his own as it was a long way from from his route to meet up with us but he rode back with us until he turned off the M42 South to continue along the M40 East.
The photographs are the Argyll and Sutherland Highland Regiment monument along with a photograph of my Father who served with the A&S Highlanders in Palestine after WW2. The photo of him was taken in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The extra is the Chipping Campden member, Andrew Alistair Buchanan, who served in the A&S Highlanders as a Major. A thoroughly nice chap with a very strong Scottish background and heritage.
A cold and damp ride, over 200 miles round trip, but I did have my heated gloves, apart from the last hour when my batteries ran out! Very cold fingers for the last 50 miles or so.
Had to pull into Strensham services too as my fuel light came on north of Worcester. I may have made it to Gloucester but not worth the risk on the motorway. I only put in 5L, at £1.54 a litre whereas it is £1.32 off the motorway.
