Welcome visitors
I’ve already mentioned that sea days provide a welcome opportunity to rest - especially after yesterday’s frustrations!
We’re moving north east towards Palawan in the Philippines, passing distant islands as we go. Sitting on the balcony is particularly relaxing, and today I spot a pair of sea birds that I don’t recognise. A longer lens reveals more detail; they’re gannet-like in terms of beak and eyes, but quite a different colour - and there’s no dramatic diving from a height, but rather a low skimming of the sea before spotting a fish and diving just below the surface. They’re Brown Boobies, I discover, and like the other members of the family, they’re known for diving - it’s just that these two don’t! I wonder whether it’s the abundance of flying fish which G’s been pointing out?
Anyway, many photos are taken - as usually when taking birds in flight they’re of very varying quality! I’ve chosen my main due to the clarity of the eye - always special with these birds - but the extra is probably a more dramatic photograph.
Thanks again for your generosity in following our travels!
