Betje Cohen

Betje (born 1874) and Roosje Cohen (born 1881) were sisters and part of a Jewish family in Leeuwarden. They led a simple and modest life. Betje and Roosje lived together and, as ordinary citizens, were well integrated into Frisian society. Like so many Jewish residents, they became victims of Nazi persecution during World War II. In 1943, the sisters were deported to death camps and murdered.
