Setting for unsupervised childhood

The Distillery District is an arts and culture centre located in downtown Toronto built on the notion of "old city" with cobbled streets, old repurposed factory-type spaces, etc. It's all a little precious, but there certainly are interesting things there. My husband and I were there to see a play at Soulpepper. Walking around before the play we wandered into a very large adjacent lot with a billboard announcing that 6000 living units would be built in that location. Suddenly, I wasn't downtown Toronto anymore, but in the Montreal suburb of my childhood (St. Lambert), riding my bike as a kid, exploring sites like this near the railway tracks close to my childhood home. The muddy puddle, the smell of the wild clover, the openness of the setting (not visible in this picture), the rawness of it, brought these memories washing over me.
