Bit stressful
My Dad had a stroke last night. We thought it was a TIA as he could smile and raise his hands well in parallel / synchronicity. I took yesterday’s blip after his mouth stopped very briefly drooling/ few mins of drooping, I was taking photos to show the change if doctors needed to see it. I told my mum I thought he was having a stroke at the time, it was brief maybe 40 mins and then he was fine. A bit of slurred speech ( he’d had no alcohol all day and doesn’t drink much anyway). Another very brief episode an hour later then he went to bed and did sudoku, read and was chatty. He refused the hospital. I took his blood pressure maybe 20 times over time and recorded it all.
This morning blood pressure down, from very high, and no big issues but a slight slur to speech. By 2:45pm we took him to hospital after much, much persuasion. He was very reluctant but chatty all car journey. The hospital used my data sheets and examined him with MRI and confirmed he’d had a stroke and not a TiA as we suspected. He is in a very full, mixed ward this evening and will transfer to a neurology ward in a large nearby (ish) hour away hospital tomorrow. My mum hopes to drive to visit him there.
This is a note the nurse doctor wrote me after I explained I couldn’t fully understand what she was telling me (my French is poor). I explained if she could write it I could Google translate it. I got the gist but WhatsApp’d my father in law who lives 2 hours away in the south of France and speaks excellent French. Thank God for mobile phones and the internet!
