I have this friend who sometimes lives in my body. I have this friend who sometimes lives in my soul. I have this friend who sometimes lives in my booze. I have this friend who sometimes lives in that condensed tiny orb of light in everybody's eyes, the orb that is the womb of teardrops and the heart of love and the most precious jewel that mankind can ever hope to command. My friend whispers to me from my body, from my soul, from my booze, from many eyes around me, from a particular pair of eyes, from the One Eye. He says, sometimes, 'Say the unsayable. Be a menorah, a crescent, a cross: Burn and give light, bend and give calmth, stand and give support.' When he does I always pause and shiver for a moment, I sigh and straighten my spine, and then I go walk the dog and the two of us stare at our shadows together.
