Nothingness

On the bus to Coogee I looked up rates of decomposition for birds. A study had been done in the Canary Islands, using domestic chickens, rock pigeons and chicks. Two weeks, more or less, before they’re feathers and bone if they hadn’t been eaten by scavengers first.

Will Coles’ concreted pigeon was in an alcove in York St in the city, not where I’d been looking in Redfern.

Ironically, given Coles’ art is about the ephemeral nature of things - goon bags, designer clutch bags, beer cans, oil cans, children’s teddy bears, life - the pigeon will be around for a while.

Thanks for hosting McCaviti. A near mono.
