'Chicken Hawk'
Spotted this small hawk walking around in our bog. When it flew up into the tree I was able to get a couple of photos of it for identification. It obviously wasn't a Red-shouldered, our usual neighborhood raptor. Merlin ID'd it as an immature Sharp-shinned Hawk aka Chicken Hawk. They look very similar to a Cooper's Hawks. The one telling feature that I was able to see was its squared-off tail. Cooper's have a rounded tail and are larger than the Sharp-shinned. This is the first Sharp-shinned that I've managed to photograph. See another photo in the *Extra.
