Phew

Well the last 24 hours has been pretty busy. Thank you for all the good wishes for T.
After I posted the blip last night I had to wait til nearly 1am to hear that he’d been admitted to hospital. In the end the ambulance was going to take too long so luckily the doormen from his club (he lives above it) carried him down to the deputy manager’s car and she drove him to the hospital where they suspected sepsis. That was what I was worried about earlier….but it seemed after numerous tests (some of this I only found out this morning once he was more able to talk to me) they ruled that out and decided it was probably pneumonia, but with added complications of poor kidney function as he’d become so dehydrated from constant sickness. He has been on IV fluids and several different antibiotics since he went in, and finally managed to get his kidney function closer to normal. Apart from fainting a couple of times, having had a terrible headache and been very drowsy and confused most of the day he perked up after D went to visit in the afternoon and once his kidney function was better they have (recently) discharged him. He’s just texted to say that he’s home, had a shower and feeling a lot better. He’s just off to bed where he hopes he’ll get a better sleep.
I feel like I spent a lot of the day on the phone …to him, to A for A&E advice, to the hospital for updates and also going over it all with Mt&H. I just hope now that he’s got a good supply of antibiotics and painkillers and is back in his own bed he’ll be ok.
It was late morning before we really surfaced….and found the cat climbing up the Christmas tree and then pulling the baubles and lights off. Think its time to take it down!
H and I set off with the kids to South Queensferry to collect sea glass on the beach there (we got a great haul. including an intact beautiful glass bottle stopper that AR found). We had a wander down the main street afterwards and the weans had a cake each and we bought ones to take home. As we walked back to the car (via a very good large charity shop that’s opened where the gin shop used to be) Mx chatted on about how he was going to keep an ant as a pet, but he wouldnt keep it indoors all the time as that would be cruel so he’d take it out ‘on supervised walks’. When we asked how he’d recognise his one when it was with all its other ant friends in the garden he sighed and explained, ‘as I said, it would be a supervised walk!’. He had us all in stitches. He’s obviously properly better for the first time today - no snoozing and lots of his usual chat and stories.
AR was very excited to sort all her finds from the beach when we got home and then they both ate a good supper and Mt & Mx decided to start dismantling the tree (which I could never do on my own!). It was very funny to see Mx organising everything, climbing the stepladder with a constant stream of instructions and explanations (‘we’re both playing to our strengths Dad aren’t we?’)…and diving into the tree leaving just his legs sticking out. We didn't believe we’d actually get the tree downstairs easily but in fact Mt&H hoisted it down fairly quickly and I swept the stairs up afterwards, then we tidied and hoovered in a madly active spurt.
We were disappointed to get notifications that all the rest of the outdoor Hogmanay celebrations have been cancelled. Mt&H were due to be at the concert in the gardens…what a shame! Much worse for all the foreign tourists who’ve travelled here at great expense mind you.
The weans built a den in the corner and then settled down there and wrote and illustrated some comics about some very complicated story. We can’t face any more food for dinner so I carried on texting and calling with T whilst they got the little ones to bed and then watched the last episode of Black Doves.
What a day…I’m worn out but I feel much better now I know T's safe and well.
