HAWK

This morning the sun was shining which was a definite plus after many days of rain and mist. My plan for the day was to take down the Christmas tree while John went to the dermatology clinic for a MOHS procedure on his shin, taking our car with him. They say those could take all day but in our experience it hasn’t.

Just after he left Tim called and said he would like to come up. I got all the ornaments off the tree and all over the kitchen counter when Tim and John both rocked up at the same time. John’s procedure went more quickly than either of us thought, and we’ve had a nice time just hanging out with Tim.

Tim and I took Spike for a walk at Spring Lake with Spike while John sat home with his leg up. We saw this hawk in a tree undisturbed by us , Spike, or anybody walking underneath it on the trail. We were so enthralled watching it that we both missed the chance to catch it in flight when it took off, dived into the grass and came up with a mouse in its talons. It flew straight into a bush and up to a branch where it began to enjoy its meal…

The tree, sans ornaments, is still in the living room, but when we got home Dana had arrived and we enjoyed a change in our normal routine and a chance to spend time with our offspring….plenty of time later to deal with the tree….
