New Zealand Post

NZ Post is not one of my favourite organisations. There are no longer any traditional Post Offices. Everything is done through Post Shops which can be situated in book shops, pharmacies, florists and probably other businesses that I am not aware of.
Today I had two courier parcels to post. These have to be handed over the counter at a Post Shop outlet.  So I looked on the internet. Yes, according to their websites, both of our nearby outlets were open. Strange as today is a public holiday. Sure enough, it was a wasted trip. Both shops were closed. So here they are, still waiting. Do I risk tomorrow. Is that also a public holiday? Maybe Friday. Every year in July, the postal costs increase. NZ Post claims that fewer people are using their services. So they put up the costs and, as a result,  even fewer people use their services. We now only receive nost 3 times a week. I can see this heading towards privatisation. Then maybe a better service may eventuate. My last thought. When I was born (1953 a long while ago) a domestic letter cost 2d or 2c in today's money. Today the same letter costs $2.30. 1150% increase. Let's blame inflation.
