Whistle Up

A wet and very windy start to the new year, with gusts of 60mph at 9am. After a lovely, fun evening, I struggled to sleep with fireworks at 1am, 1:40 and the noise of the strong gusty wind, and only got about 4 hours of sleep. The New Year's Day Dip at Sheringham was cancelled due to the weather, but I still went over to see the steam train. Today was Whistle Up at 12 noon, when over 50 Heritage railways across Britain joined forces to launch Railway 200, with nearly 200 vintage steam and diesel locomotives blowing their whistles. Railway 200 commemorates the launch of the Stockton and Darlington Railway 200 years ago in 1825, which was the launch of the modern railway.  It's a year-long celebration, so do look out for events near you.
