'Happy New Year!'

We managed to keep up our tradition of a New Year's Day parkrun this year, though it involved a quick change of plan!!

Our 'home' parkrun at Cramond was cancelled this morning after a course inspection. The weather was already windy and wet, and the prom was badly flooded. The local forecast suggested that much worse was to come.

Unfortunately, we only noticed this on their Facebook page just before we were due to leave. Quite apart from wanting to keep up the New Year parkrun tradition, we were already dressed in waterproofs from top to toe (waterproof beanies to waterproof socks and everything in between),  and I wanted to test out my injured foot by running very gently at the back—my first outing for three weeks. So staying at home wasn't an option!

Portobello was still on, though, and there was just time to get there. A bit of a crowd at the start -  on the much narrower paths -  and some pretty generous puddles, too (growing ever larger with each encounter on the three-lap course)!

So yes, by the end, we were freezing and pretty wet (and it was starting to snow!), but we were glad we had started the New Year off on a positive note!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

PS just seen an email I got from Parkrun HQ congratulating me on my ‘best time this year’!
