Last night was as bad as the waters been for a while, 8 inches deep at the bottom of the garden - but, thankfully, nothing near the house.
The defence work we've done was effective for the most part. A lot of the water stayed in the hall grounds, and the work on clearing and maintaining the beck beyond us certainly seems to have kept the water moving.
Usually the beck is a couple of feet wide and just a couple of inches deep. At these rock shelves the water often disappears, I assume into fissure in the limestone. Today it was 8ft wide and deeper than wellies. As I found out the 'fun' way.
