Flood!

After what feels like weeks of sun and, yes, something approaching a summer, suddenly the rains came, and even though at first it seemed the earth was dry and parched, ready to soak up whatever the heavens could throw at it, it seems the water table hasn't dropped that much.

This is the river Lune, somewhere between Kirkby Lonsdale and Lancaster, where I was heading for a work meeting EVEN THOUGH IT'S SUNDAY. It's harder from the photo but even from where I was standing, it was tricky to work out what was the actual course of the river and what was flooding.
