The New Year : May It Hold Some Happiness
Here are Terri and Lois, enjoying Laurie reading Joseph Goldstein poems. Sue and I attended the annual New Year’s Day brunch thrown by our friends Laurie (who blips about once a month) and Terri (who formerly blipped). The format is snacks, coffee or tea, and then readings.
Most of the readings today had to do with balancing horrors and sorrows with delights and kindness, while trying to hold it all. Gaza and Lebanon were mentioned. Houseless people. The incoming presidential administration. But also the wonder of spider webs and Dark Matter, and the differences between learning a language when young and learning a language when old. The importance of leaving room for laughter.
We grieved the people killed in New Orleans last night and the people killed in Gaza yesterday. We celebrated the possibilities inherent in a New Year. We praised Bernie, the new family dog, and enjoyed vegan treats.
