a lifetime burning

Given the recent very poor weather I was hoping that I'd get the chance to see and photograph a short eared owl today.  In the event only one owl flew that close to me, although I did see several.  Fortunately that one opportunity was a good one,  and I'm rather pleased with the end result.

Knowing that it was going to be cold up on the escarpment I dressed warmly, but there were times when the low temperature combined with the northerly wind meant that it was bitterly cold.  I'd been there a while, with nothing to show for my efforts but a kestrel, when JDO turned up, in her very fetching and (clearly nice and warm) new owling coat.  A little later on JDO located Hillyblips and we were able to have a brief catch up while waiting for owls to show themselves.
