Rainbow Lorikeets: Topic (Last)
I was in Yallagonga National Park this morning to see how much water was in the Lake, we had a substantial drop of rain last week also during last night and a few heavy showers today.
The Lake was well and truly high, there were Wading Birds, Coots, Black Ducks, Musk Ducks, Black Swans all were enjoying the luxury! it was truly a wonderful sight, I had intended to publish the Lake and the amount of Wildlife on there, and say this could be the "LAST"drop of rain to fall as we go into August tomorrow and its a slim to nothing chance we will get any more good follow up rain, i was happy with my blips!

I went for a bush walk along the track while i was there, high in the tree were these two Rainbow Lorikeets pictured above, performing and squawking and feeding on a tiny grub that lives on the dead leaves of the Eucalyptus.....Blip!....this was my "LAST" blip for July!

They are a Parrot, even though their name suggests otherwise, their importation is banned in Tasmania where they regard them as an agricultural pest, also a threat to their own Native Parrot the Musk Lorikeet, swift Parrot also the Green Rosella, they would compete for survival.
Other States, ours included try to keep their numbers down.
There were fewer than 10 Lorikeets released near Perth in the 1960s; by 2006 the population was estimated at 15,ooo-20,ooo Birds.
They breed between August-January and can produce up to three broods of two eggs in one season. They are very destructive.
