Gamlárskvöld - New Year's Eve
As we've done several times before, we spent the last day of the year with my mother in her cottage, Sandvík in Hauganes.
The traditional New Year's Eve three course dinner was prepared and eaten, drinks drunk and "snakk & ídýfa" consumed.
The annual "Áramótaskaup" was enjoyed and then it was time to go outside in the -14°C to shoot up the fireworks.
But....the northern lights made a spectacular appearance and outshone all the noisy polluting fireworks with a colourful dance!!
This photo was snapped in a hurry on a simple camera and absolutely doesn't do the show any justice - it was just WOW!
Extra photo: Dagur laughing after watching the champagne corks dance on TV RÚV, a short film they never knew was broadcast annually on New Year's Eve, because they've always been too busy outside.
This year Daníel heard about it for the first time and decided he definitely had to see it, and Kári and Dagur joined him :-)
