Not long before our Messiah concerts, we were told that those of us who wanted to, could sing excerpts from Bach's Christmas Oratorio in a concert on 5 January. We've had a few rehearsals but instead of learning it on my own at home, as I needed to do, I've been using my time arranging accommodation and activities for guests from Grenoble, organising Christmas, emptying the shed, painting, moving furniture, one or two other things, and general procrastination. Yesterday I felt a bit dispirited about the 25% or so I didn't know and wondered whether dropping out was unfair on my fellow singers. This morning I pulled myself together and used Cyberbass (an excellent online resource for learning choral parts) to go through everything we are singing. I made notes of the places I needed help - fewer than I thought - to take to today's lunchtime tenor and bass rehearsal. I got help, I can now sing about 95% and I will sing in the concert tomorrow. I will enjoy it.
