Homing in on Monkshood

Yesterday's blip emphasized pollen dispersal. Today I was aware of a frenzy of activity around the monkshood (aconitum) plants which are well through their flowering cycle and are producing seed pods now on the upper stems, but with flowers still blooming further down. It looks as if this bee has a long proboscis, but it is in fact the point of a ripening pod behind its head.

I thought this shot captured the pursuit of nectar from the bee's perspective and it suggests other garden features in the background - a cabin, fence and splodges of coloured flowers. Suburban gardens are a significant source of nectar for bees. In the foreground are ripening pods and the monkhood's tunnel-like bloom which the bees disappear inside on their day-long quest for nectar. I captured this aspect on 29th June.

I applied a crosshatch filter and adjusted the curves to make the image as vibrant as possible.
