"The Tranny"

Many things in the world get the nickname of Tranny; from Vans to men in ladies underwear; but apparently the Transporter Bridge over the River Tees is also called thus.

Well according to wikipedia.

Perhaps fello blipper Richie Boo can help with that, as I know he is a fan of Teesside bridges.

The bridge carries a "gondola" that hangs from the track at the top of the bridge, thereby keeping the river free of obstructions.

You drive onto the gondola, park up, and are carried across the Tees in about a minute where you then drive off as normal; whilst they load up for the return trip.
It still gets used daily; and is not just a tourist attraction.

Took C to Redcar today via the Transporter bridge, and he found the entire thing quite amusing. "We crossed the bridge, but the car didn't have to move."

Then popped up the Redcar Beacon, before heading back home to Grandmas.
