The Shrinking Pond……

This pond is what remains of the previously very large ponded area of the Taylor River. The usually resident white-faced heron has even given up fishing there. He has probably fished it out. It is going to take a lot of rain up in the headwaters of the river and perhaps a couple of floods to fully replenish the ponded area.
The unseasonal cooler weather is hanging on. Southerly gales in Cook Strait have interrupted ferry sailings. Both ferry companies have cancelled some sailings leaving passengers stranded in the ferry terminals. It is a pretty dire situation for passengers in the middle of the holiday season.
