Memories

Is anyone else old enough to have had one of these in their house when they were young ?
Its a Mangle. Used to flatten sheets and clothing when it came out of the washing tub. This one works by turning the handle at the side. It is free standing. Later versions were built into the top of electric washing machines and were power operated. They could be hazardous. I recall that my mother’s long hair was once caught in ours. Fortunately it was designed to reverse the rollers if something like that happened.

Smaller versions designed to squeeze the water out of washed clothes were I think called Wringers.
This one is in the window of a shop in rhe village which specializes in selling clothes and objects from former times.
