Whelter Crags

In years now gone there'd have been climbing there, but whilst there's been a lot of snow it's not really subject to freeze-thaw-refreeze cycle that climbing needs for axes to bite.

A friend who runs a weather station in Leysin, in the Swiss Alps, reported today that that 2024 saw the highest winter season average temperature for 125 years, oddly they're having amazing snow, but the trend isn't good.
Here I think serious winter climbing may be a thing of the past in the Lake District.
