‘Locomotion’ …

… bronze, designed by Frank Cossell, 1967.

I passed this beautiful bronze statue this morning en route to the passport office for a 10.00am appointment, I’ve never noticed it before but then again I have only ever driven along the street in Cowcaddens, whereas today I was on foot. It stands in front of a large 1960’s office block, Buchanan House, which was originally the offices of British Rail and now due for demolition to be replaced by flats and apartments. The statue is cordoned off and is to stay in place.
I must say the service at the passport office was excellent. I entered the building at 09.47, had my name checked off, bag searched and was sat down in front of the passport agent who was behind a screen within minutes. By 09.51 I had my old passport back and an email and text to say my application for a new passport had been approved and I would receive it in the post by next Tuesday. I had booked the appointment online last week having found that my passport would not be valid for entry into Spain next month as although it doesn’t expire till August 2025 it was issued on 3rd February 2015 and the rules now state that it must have a date of issue when you arrive of less than 10 years, we arrive on 8th February 2025, thank goodness I noticed!
