Feeding Time

On the spur of the moment I decided to head over to RHS Wisley for lunch and a wander.  As I usually do, I walked up to the bird hide, ever hopeful of seeing a kingfisher. Alas it was not to be - I haven't actually seen one there for a few years, especially as the pond has been low on water recently.  No such problem with water today; the nearby river had broken its banks and the pond and surrounding area was flooded!

The staff at Wisley keep a large bird feeder filled each day which is popular with the local birds.  Today the chaffinches were out in force enjoying the feed, along with tits, nuthatches and parakeets. There was even a pair of mandarin ducks enjoying the dropped seed below in the winter sun.
