Orion Nebula

Last April my family bought me a Stargazing experience for my 70th birthday. In the summer we would have had to go out quite late to get dark skies, so we left it until winter and after one failed attempt when there was cloud we arranged it for this evening. Perfect cold clear conditions.
Jordan brings along a huge Celestron telescope which tracks the stars . It’s possible to point your phone down the viewfinder and take a photo of what you’re seeing. This was the Orion Nebula in the sword of Orion, and with a twenty five second exposure you get the colourful appearance you see here.
It was a fascinating evening and we learned a lot.
Extra is the Andromeda galaxy. The little smudge in the middle. Not even  visible with the naked eye. It is 2.537 million light years away.
Now that is awesome.

Edit. I just added a moon photo.
It is the “ wrong” way round for our hemisphere but is as the telescope captures it.
