Smashed

I had just started heading home from Nottingham on the M1 when a big chunk ice fell from a lorry on an overpass on to my windscreen.  At 70mph that makes quite an impact....

New windscreen needed.  My insurance company was hopeless.  They arranged tow and storage of my car until the weekend, then an appointment for repair on Saturday!

I found a local company that can replace it tomorrow morning, so I'm staying overnight in a Premier Inn and hoping they get the job done.  It will only cost a few pennies more than my insurance excess... I've taped a bin bag over the damaged section to avoid and unwanted water ingress overnight....

Now I've had a closer look it was a lucky hit.  A bit further forward it would have dented the bonnet.  Further back, the roof.  A little to the left I'd have lost the wing mirror and had damage to the door pillar.  A little to the right and I'd have been showered in tiny fragments of glass (there are plenty on the passenger seat) and lost most of my forward visibility...
