Smith and Caughey's

After a midday appointment over the bridge we went into the city centre for a visit to one of Auckland's oldest retail establishments.  Smith and Caughey's have been trading since 1880 but last year they announced that the business would be closing in early 2025.  However the closure has now been changed to a downsizing with the Queen St store remaining open but reduced in size from three retail floors to one.  Currently the annual Boxing Day sale is on but the place was looking a bit empty as they consolidate (extra).  Not sure what the plans are for the other floors.
