The shadow in between
With Toff being in season, we are being careful to keep her well away from male dogs. Today this meant taking her in the car. And contrary to expectations that she might have bad memories of travelling in the back of the car when she left her original home to come to us, she settled happily, thanks to an offering of a few dried sprats. We haven’t persuaded her to leap in yet, but she is happy to be lifted. She is clearly used to travelling in vehicles, and was quite comfortable watching the view.
That’s another small challenge ticked off. The house training isn’t quite ticked off, perhaps because she needs to wee more being in season.
The bigger challenge is building her confidence in her interactions with people. She remains particularly timid with men, and she is easily spooked by loud or unexpected noises. On the plus side, when she is allowed to mix with other dogs, she is very sociable and enjoys playing. She has a bit of separation anxiety with C, though only when she can hear her voice elsewhere in the house.
It’s all good progress, we just have to be calm and patient.
Meanwhile the cold weather continues and the frost lies all day, today was gloriously sunny. Almost too good to play table tennis at Bat & Chat, though we had an excellent turnout today.
ps Note the ridge and furrow in the field beyond.
