2000 restaurant dates

Tonight’s dinner conversation started with the wild realisation that by the end of this month, we’ll have sat opposite each other at a restaurant table over 2,000 times. Two thousand! It feels both surreal and totally us.
We’ve been together for 39 years come February, and dining out has been a big part of our story since the very beginning. Back then, we’d eat out a couple of times a week—sometimes even twice a day if the mood struck. Of course there were pauses here and there (newborns and toddlers have a way of keeping you at home!), but once the kids grew up, we picked the habit right back up, finding little restaurants together like we were courting again.
Of course, we had to do some mental maths (because who doesn’t want to terrify themselves with numbers while eating?). Even at a modest average of £30 a meal, we’re talking £60,000 spent over the years. Sixty grand! OMG!!!
