The Shard: "Don't Look Down"!
Is it large ("L") enough?
I met a friend in town today for lunch and an amble. We wandered around Borough Market and Bankside, and were drawn towards The Shard by a rather dramatic sight: there were three tiny figures near the top, abseiling down to clean the windows! On approaching The Shard, we realised that there were six of them, three on one side and three on the opposite one.
It is an impressive building, but I don't think its location is very sympathetic... Were it in Canary Wharf (amongst other tall buildings) then I think it'd seem less out of place. As it is, it towers over Southwark Cathedral and seems rather unsubtle (in spite of the architect's claims that its superbright glass would make it almost disappear into the sky).
Later in the afternoon, I visited Wandsworth Common with another pal in search of the mallufted ducklings; we were unsuccessful, but came across a very cheeky and surprisingly daring moorhen! I came right over (tempted by "fake bread") and bit me three times (I suppose I was asking for it). This photo shows it cautiously approaching my friend's outstretch hand. Cute creature!
