69 years ago today 5 missionaries were killed in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador by members of a tribe they had been trying to befriend. Later the wife and daughter of one and sister of another continued and ended up living amongst the same tribe that had killed their husband/dad/brother!

My granny and grandad moved in to take over from one of these couples - working with a different tribe - and my mum was born while they were there (in the town where the 5 had flown from).

Spent a while reading a load of newspaper cuttings Auntie Helen had sent to Mum from the months and years after the event…fascinating! And inspiring!
